The things I wish I could promise

The stereotype around election candidates is that they lie about what they will do to get more votes. I’m not stereotypical. I want to be as transparent as possible regarding what can and should be done.

The items on this page are what I want to do, but based on my consultation meetings, they require efforts from beyond the MSU. Some might require systemic changes in the university and/or the municipal government. Some might require external investment from third parties due to its financial cost.

I will work with the relevant party to bring these items to life. They will involve a significant amount of meetings and bureaucracy. However, if these items are to be successfully implemented, it would bring great improvement to student life.

  1. Move hospitality service and housing and conference service from the Department of Finance to the Department of Student Affairs

Without this change, hospitality and housing services would be profit-driven rather than servicing the students. This is a must to reduce the price of food and residence

  2. Increasing investment and political support from municipal government for off-campus housing

The municipal government has refused to adapt to the needs of the university. The university brought in $9.2 billion for the city last year, yet it took 2 years to get the permit to build the new residence building. The government needs to see McMaster as the future for the city.

  3. Decrease restrictions for events on campus

There is too much red tape and bureaucracy that are interfering with events in student life. Restricting bake sales by clubs due to concerns for health and safety is ridiculous. The process needs to be simplified and convenient to encourage more events that improve student life. The university should loosen restrictions and create bylaws that are more favourable for student engagement

  4. The university should have student life as the top priority, together with academic

We are not Waterloo (academic), and we are not Western (student life). We can be best at both of these.
